Biomechanics Research Laboratory

The Biomechanics Research Laboratory (BRL), established in 1994, is a laboratory of research excellence located within the School of Medical, Indigenous and Health Sciences and has a strong affiliation with Breast Research Australia (BRA). It is home to a small but passionate group of individuals who are committed to developing innovative strategies, based on rigorous applied biomechanics research, to decrease injury potential and optimize the quality of life for individuals of all ages.

Research

Research within the BRL is primarily focused on the biomechanics of injury prevention with a specific interest in four main areas of focused research excellence

Football breast injuries taking a toll but available protection is often unsuitable

Associate Professor Deirdre McGhee from the University of Wollongong specialises in breast health and biomechanics and recently finished a four-year study into breast injuries in women's sport.
